What Do Star Wars and Your Visual Marketing Campaign Have in Common?

Did you know that you can use Star Wars to improve or kickstart your visual marketing campaign?

While the plot of your visual marketing campaign is (hopefully) not as dramatic as Han Solo’s battles on Tatooine, here are some great one-liners you can use as motivation.

“The Force is strong with you.”  – Darth Sidious

Your visual content marketing has to be epic to get seen in this noisy, visually-dynamic online world, right?

You might want to take a page out of George Lucas’s book and try to create some really cutting-edge visuals that other people haven’t started using… like infographics!

A visual marketing campaign with infographics can:

Basically, once you start using infographics in your visual campaign, you’ll be unstoppable! But this leads into our next point…

“Don’t get cocky.” – Han Solo

Marketers and entrepreneurs who experience a little bit of a boost from their visual marketing efforts tend to get complacent. They think that what has worked for them in the past will continue to do so in the future – this is the Jar Jar Binks of all marketing mistakes. You don’t want to be annoying, repetitive, or totally unnecessary to your audience!

This means that, with your visual marketing campaign, you have to stay up-to-date on your content. Your audience wants the information, but they also want to be attracted to your content in the first place. Infographics are a great way to refresh old content, share new content, and blast that content everywhere it can be used!

If you’re not quite sold on creating infographics, or don’t know where to start, check out this Crash Course in Infographics – it will give you the basics and jump start your visual marketing efforts.

“There’s always a bigger fish.” – Qui-Gon Jinn

The hardest part about being a small fish in a very large Internet sea is trying to get attention for your content when the larger fish take up all the spotlight. Instead of assuming that your visual marketing campaign is pointless, though, learn from the bigger fish.

Pioneers in the infographic / visual marketing industry can be a huge help to you when you’re starting out or revamping your strategy. See what works for them, what they’re trying to accomplish now, and how often they “mix things up.” Analyze them as a source of information, rather than competition.

There are also times where influencer marketing can come into play. Try to get your infographics and visuals seen by those “bigger fish” – they might just share their spotlight with you.

As Jinn says here, there will always be a bigger fish. If you don’t try to follow in the wake they’ve made, you’re not going get anywhere.

“I suggest a new strategy, R2.” – C-3PO

There is nothing more inspirational than a golden, humanoid robot, right? His analytical approach and self-preservation efforts, while comedic in the movies, can actually serve you well in your visual marketing campaigns.

If you’re creating visuals or infographics and not getting the results you want (social media shares / followers, email converts, increased web traffic), it’s time to re-evaluate. This doesn’t mean you should stop using visuals; it means you need to create better visuals.

For many entrepreneurs and marketers, this means starting to really use infographics to their fullest. This could mean:

  • Gathering data specific to your business and incorporating that into graphics
  • Creating infographics that are “cutting-edge” (3-D models, GIFs, videos, etc.)
  • Using analytics to target your audience better (age, location, preferences)
  • Using web, email, and social analytics to see where your images have the most impact

Once you’ve adopted a new strategy, see how it works out. It’s also worth noting that, once something starts working, it doesn’t mean that it always will. Refer back to our Han Solo quote above if you need a refresher.

“Do or do not – there is no try.” – Yoda

If you haven’t jumped on the infographic bandwagon yet, we would say it’s high time. Did you know that infographic creation increases by 1% everyday? That means your competition could already be kickstarting their visual marketing campaign while you read this (hilarious and informational) article.

As Yoda says here, do or do not. We recommend doing. Start creating infographics. Play around with Easelly’s infographic templates and infographic maker tool. See what your audience likes and what other people are doing. Create content unique to your business or brand. Just start somewhere!

Soon, you’ll get a better feel for creating infographics and visuals, and you’ll see the boost in traffic, conversions, and even sales in no time – if you just do it! But readers, beware…

“You underestimate the power of the Dark Side.” – Darth Vader

The biggest reason to incorporate infographics into your visual marketing is to increase your audience, reach, and conversions. While many entrepreneurs and small businesses have started using infographics, a lot of people are focused on creating MORE rather than BETTER.

The most important thing to remember is that the quality of your content will drive your success. Much like Luke had to deny the Dark Side, you must deny the drive to create content just for the sake of content!

Your audience will be able to tell if you’re just creating infographics and pushing your visuals to simply get it out there. To create infographics in line with The Force, you must take the time to design them with your audience in mind – What do they want to see? What brand are you hoping they identify with? Do they actually want to see this content?

Keeping that in mind with keep you from straying to the Dark Side!

And the final connection between your visual marketing efforts and Star Wars?

Don’t be afraid to reinvent yourself and keep growing your content’s story. The beauty of content is that it can be reiterated, remade, and revamped to attract whole new audiences. Most importantly, maintain a loyal audience by keeping them on their toes. Audiences love it when you keep them coming back for more!

Let The Force be your guide and don’t be afraid to create your own visuals and infographics. After all, “Fear is the path to the Dark Side.”
