Classroom Poster Competition

This is the second time we have a poster competition, and this year’s theme is “The future of neuroscience”.  I made an infographic to be posted on social media, because we need to start spreading the word about the contest.

The students must make a poster about what they think is the future of neuroscience, based in a review of the literature, for science divulgation purposes. There are always very good prizes for the winners, and many students have already started to ask about the rules for the contest.

The main objective of this infographic is to inform about the rules, guidelines and prizes. I used a bright background and keep the rest of the poster in grey, black and white so the poster would look more professional, because the target of this poster is the University population.  To give the poster more symmetry, I used the Grid tool so every element would be perfectly placed.

I am not good with proportions and perspective, which is why using the Text tools  Title, Header and Body was really helpful.  After I finished writing down all the rules, it looked a little sad without any illustrations, so I used one of the Objects under the category of Science (a little microscope) put it with the theme inside a black circle and then made it transparent and send it to back. It started to look good to me, so I finished by adding the logo of the event in grey color (a little brain with the legend BAW) over a black rectangle at the bottom of the poster. At the bottom of the post I added my e-mail for additional information.

I really liked the result and I think this will be the “official poster” that I will be modifying for the movie program and daily activities, which will save me a lot of time. One of my students suggested to keep it similar but change the background color for the different activities (blue for the movies, green for the conferences, pink for the workshops) so people can tell where to look when looking for specific activities. We will give it a try and then my students will vote for the best looking ones.
