Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 "The Help" & "To Kill a Mockingbird" Characters: Theme / Message: Plot Events: -When Aibileen was accused of stealing from Hilly is very similar towhen Tom was accused of raping Mayella Ewell. Aibileen was accused of stealing some of the silverware because she was black and becauseHilly had wanted her fired. Tom was accused of Rape because he was black and it was easier to blame him then to blame Bob Ewell, Mayella'sfather for her rape. Even though Tom had been prosecuted and killed and Aibileen had not they are both cases of racism. - The tea's in both are very similar. During the tea's Both Aunt Alexandra in "To Kill a Mockingbird" and Hilly in "The Help" gossip about their piers. They both hold gatherings with the main purposeof gossip. Also there is a person in each that doesn't want to be there. Skeeter in The Help and Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird. That both go because they are forced to go. - Skeeter and Scout are very similar because they are both rebels. Skeeter and Scout both know that racism isn't right and that blacks and whites should not be treated any different. Neither of them care about how they are viewed by other people. Skeeter shows that she doesn't care about what people think of her by writing her book and Scout shows that she doesn't care by standing up for Tom at the jail. -The importance of having hope and faith is also a very important theme in both "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "The Help".Without hope and faith Aibileen and Minny would not have kept helping Skeeter with her book because they would have thought that there was no chance for it to be published and that people would figure out that it was them who told the stories. Also if Jem and Scout hadn't had any hope or faith that Tom was not going to be convicted then they would not have stood up for him and would not have really cared what people had said about the topic. Since Atticus had raised them right and taught them to believe in hope and to have faith, they defended Tom and had hopethat he was going to be freed. - Small acts of courage is a useful way to force change. In "The Help" hen Aibileen agreed to help Skeeter with the writing of her column showed courage because she gave Skeeter incite for how to clean a house. This theme is also in "To Kill a Mockingbird. When Scout stands up to the lynch mod that shows up at the prison where Tom was is a small act of courage even though it impacted the story in a big way. Scout's act had kept the men from killing Tom that night. Aibileen had forced change by eventually telling the world what it was like to be a black maid that works for a white familyin the south. Scout had forced change by making the menin the lynch mod think as individuals and not as a group ofwhite men going to kill a black man. - Miss Hilly and Aunt Alexandra are very similar because they both care about how they appear to the people around them. They are also both the head of their groups and both hold gatherings wherethey gossip about other women in their towns.
