Background Background - Globalization as a reason for work place changes and increased stress.- Shift-work affects circadian rhythm. This can result in physical aspects of the body and in psychological disorders like depression.- Studies often deal with occupational mental health in classic "nine-to-five" jobs.- This raises the question wether shift-work in particular influences the occurrence of depression among employees. Depression is the "leadingcause for disabilityworldwide" (WHO 2012) and resultsfrom the interaction of psychological,social and biological factors.Women are more affected Methods Methods - Data were adapted from the Geda.- IBM SPSS Statistics 22 was used for data analysis.- Literature search was done on the basis of three variables. Pubmed and Springer Link were consulted with key words: 'shift-work' AND 'depression' References References Results Results Women sometimesworking in shift-workare slightly more affected. Among men a slight increase can be noticed with the increasing amountof shift-work. Statistically there is no significance (p > 0,05 Cramer V=,026 no effect)in the relationship between shift-work and the occurrence of depression Discussion Discussion Careful interpretation of results:- The estimated number of unreported cases can be much higher.- The amount of stress differs from occupation to occupation.- The term of 'shift-work' is used in a wide range of meaning.- The type of shift-work is also important for the occurrence of depression. - Knauth, P., Rutenfranz, J., (1982). Just a little amount of theinterviewee had diagnosed depression. The tables show, that there are no big difference in the occurrence of depression related to shift-work. Further research is needed.
