Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 The reason Julius Caesar was killedwas because he ignored all of the signs telling him not to go to the capital on March 15. One warning that Julius Caesar was given was when the soothsayer said, Beware the ides of March. (1, 2,27). Calpurnia has a dream where blood is pouring out of a statue of Caesar at the capitol. The citizens then happily bathe their hands in the fallen blood. She takes this as a sign to try and convince Caesar to not go to the capital. Calpurina brings up the unnatural events that occured and belives they are signs from the Gods for him to not go to the Capital. She explains to Caeser, Caesar, I never stood on ceremonies, Yet now they fright me. There is one within,Besides the things that we have heard and seen, Recounts most horrid sights seen by the watch. A lioness hath whelpèd in the streets, And graves have yawned and yielded up their dead. Fierce fiery warriors fought upon the clouds In ranks and squadrons and right form of war, Which drizzled blood upon the Capitol. The noise of battle hurtled in the air. Horses did neigh, and dying men did groan,And ghosts did shriek and squeal about the streets. 2.2.13-24 Artemidorus writes a letter to Caesar explaining that he needs to beware of certain people and what they might do to him. The letter says, Caesar, beware of Brutus. Take heed of Cassius. Come not near Casca. Have an eye to Cinna. Trust not Trebonius. Mark well Metellus Cimber. Decius Brutus loves thee not. Thou hast wronged Caius Ligarius. There is but one mind in all these men, and it is bent against Caesar. If thou beest not immortal, look about you. Security gives way to conspiracy. The mighty gods defend thee! Thy lover, Artemidorus 2.3.1-10 Caesar ignores the soothsayer's warning and replies back saying, He is a dreamer. Let us leave him. Pass. 1,2, 28 Caesar agrees not to go to the capital and tells Decius about the his wife's dream. Decius then proceeds to explain to Caesar how it was misinterpreted, This dream is all amiss interpreted. It was a vision fair and fortunate. Your statue spouting blood in many pipes, In which so many smiling Romans bathed, Signifies that from you great Rome shall suck Reviving blood, and that great men shall press For tinctures, stains, relics, and cognizance. This by Calphurnias dream is signified. 2.2.88-95 After Decius explains what he believes the dream really means, Caesar believes him and decides to go and ignore Calphurnia's instincts and go to the capital anyway. Caesar explains how the events were signals to the who world, they dont only apply to him.what can be avoided Whose end is purposed by the mighty gods? Yet Caesar shall go forth, for these predictionsAre to the world in general as to Caesar. 2.2.27-30 The augurs recommend that Caesar stays home because they examined the entrails of an animal and were unable to find a heart. Being unable to find a heart inside of the animal is known as a bad sign. Caesar refuses to read the letter because hebelieves anything that has to do with himself, will be completed 'last. When told to read the letter Caesar replied, Whatever pertains to myself I will deal with last. 3.1.7 Caesar refuses to stay home out of fear. Ignoring the soothsayers warning was a mistake on Caesars part because hewent to the capital on theIdes Of March. Calpurina was mostly correct. After the conspirators kill Caesar Brutus says, Andlet us bathe our hands in Caesarsblood 3.1.118 Julius Caesar disagrees with Calpurina's interpretation and goes to the capital anyway. Give me my robe for i will go. 2.2.112 Due to Caesar not reading the letter, he doesnt keepan eye out for the conspirators. On the 15th of March he comes in contact with them and doesnt know that they could be dangerous. Despite the advice the augurs give Caesar, he is still adamant about going to the capital.
