BTNEP: The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program BTNEP was created to protect and restore Louisianas environment, and it has jurisdiction over parts of 16 parishes. TheBTNP helps the environmentby cooperating and consultingwith businessmen, environmentalists, politicians,and members of communitiesto implement plans that help the environment. These plans fallunder four categories, whichare indicated below. Ecological Management Plans Sustained Recognitionand Citizen InvolvementPlans Economic Growth Action Plans Coordinated planningand implementation Plans By George Evangeloulis This type of plan lays the groundwork for futureinitiatives, and helps make policy decisions about these initiatives. This type of plan promotes the growth of businesses that increase awareness of the wetlands and the problems that they face. The primary business that economic growth action plans are focused on is the business of nature-based tourism. These plans aim to increase public awareness about the wetlands and their significance. Thisconvinces future generationsto protect their environment. These plans are the most important, because they address the most direct problems faced by Louisianas wetlandsand thus affect all of the other decisions that will be made. These plans aim to fix many of the problems faced by the wetlands,such as habitat loss, erosion, and poor water quality. Works Cited
