Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 Vampire Bats Ancient people used to think that vampire bats suck human blood and they were scared of it. But they very seldom bite humans. Vampire Bats live in almost completely dark places like caves, hollow trees and buildings. They live in arid/humid areasof subtropical/tropical areas, from Central America to South America. Hearing Range of Vampire Bats + Humans Has a lifespan of 9 years in the wild.Ounce of blood at every meal to survive.Live in colonies of 100, sometimes 1000.2 nights without blood = dead.Heat seeking facesInfrared sensors on nose. They can cause RABIES!They have a dietary trait called hematophagy which means that their food source is blood. A vampire bat would not survive if itsenvironment was windier, because its wings aren't very strong. What could help this is if the vampire bat had strongerwings that could help it fly faster. There are currently no endangermentissues with the vampire bat, but ifthere was one it would be that thenumber of warm-blooded animalsthat live where the vampire bat live get lower and lower. The vampire batadaptations do not help with this because they rely on bloodand they cannot get energyanywhere else. Maybe if the vampire bathad another source of energy itwould survive in this environment. The vampire bat has evolved over time to run on ground. It has involved independentlyalong with other vampire bats. Some people believe that theirdietary trait hematophagy hasalso been a cause of evolutionover time. A general life cycle of a bat is shown here. Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae, Desmodus Rotundus Some Vampire Bat adaptations:- Heat seeking faces, which helpthe vampire bat seek out warm blooded preyfor them to feed on.- Infrared sensors on their noses, which track where blood flows.- Short, conical muzzle which also detects where blood flows very close to the skin. close to the skin.- They can fly, which allows them to avoid land predators and catch prey that is higher.- They have a really good sense of smell, which allows them to smell their prey.- They have really good ears with special neurons that can react to breathing noises. They can even distinguish the breathing sounds made by different animals which helps find their prey. This is similar to a Little Brown Bat's ears, except the hearing range is a bit different.
