In " The Help" it occurs when Aibileen was on her way home on the bus when the bus director said, "all colored people off!" he said this because a black man was shot earlier that evening. In "To Kill a Mockingbird"Tom Robinson was shot while he was trying to escapeprison. Historical/Society Skeeter and Scout are very much alike because they both don't mind beingaround blacks and they both eventually realize how badly the blacks are being treated and in their own way do something about it.Skeeter's mom, Charlotte Phelan and Aunt Alexandra are in many ways alike because they both give a lot of importance to what people think of them and they both attempt at molding two of their girls into grown proper women,Charlotte tries to get Skeeter a nice husband while Skeeter is more focused on the book she is writing. Aunt Alexandra tries to make scout more lady like by making her wear dresses and by making her attend the little tea party at Scouts house. 2 The Help and To Kill a Mockingbird Theme/messages "The Help" and "To Kill a Mockingbird"both occur when the JimCrow Laws were enforced. In " The Help" Aibileenreminds Skeeter that she is breaking the JimCrow laws by writing thebook with her. In "To Killa Mockingbird " the JimCrow Laws are not as enforced as in "The Help"."The Help" and "To Kill aMockingbirds" both take place during the late 1930'sbecause both of there communities suppressblack people to the point that the blacks believe their" living in hell", said by Minny Jackson. Common themes in "The Help" and "To Kill a Mockingbird" are bravery and the tension between two groups coming together. Bravery is shown in "To Kill a Mockingbird" when Atticus decides to defend Tom Robinson, a black man of rape. It's shown in "The Help" when Skeeter decides to write her book, about the blacks perspective on life even though everyone tells her not to.Another common theme is the tension between the two groups coming together. In both books/movies the blacks spend a lot of their time with white people because of their jobs but in both books there are white people who want their black servants to be separated and there are also white people who dont want their black servants to be separated. In The Help Hilly want the blacks to have their own bathrooms, Hilly is respected by a lot of white women so once she wants something everyone wants that one thing. Then there is Skeeter who thinks blacks should be treated fairly. In To Kill a Mockingbird Aunt Alexandra wants Calpurnia to leave their house but Atticus doesn't support this idea, because if it weren't for Cal, Atticus wouldn't have been able to raise Jem and Scout on his own.
