Our society today views death as a fear.We view that today because we have so much going on that no one knows when they gone take their last breath. We still view Death the same according to Edgar Allen Poe, his poem "The Raven" can relate to a lot of people who have lost someone very important to them. For example me, I lost my mom at a young and I do grieve for her sometimes. In the Raven, the quote ".Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before; But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token, And the only word there spokenwas the whispered word, "Lenore!" This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, "Lenore!"Merely this, and nothing more. " This quote can be compared to many people in modern society because he is still grieving over his wife.He mumbles her name to hear nothing but the echo which means she is not coming back, so therefore he need to move on, just like some people in the world today. People will grieve over tthings or people for a lifetime they just put they life in park.. In the Poem "The Little White Hearse" this quote "Somebody saw it go out of her sight,Under the coffin--out through the door;Somebody finds only darkness and blight All through the glory of summer-sun light;Somebody's baby will waken no more." This quote can be compared to Modern Day societyand The Raven because the parents of a child have lost their baby and is grieving for their child to return just like in The Raven he is grieving for his wife to return and in modern society someone is grieving or their return of their child too. n the Raven, the quote "But the Raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke onlyThat one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.Nothing further then he uttered – not a feather then he fluttered – Till I scarcely more than muttered "Other friends have flown before – On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before."Then the bird said "Nevermore." This quote can be compared to many things in the modern society. For example, Friendship, in this quote the man saids that the Raven will leave just like everyone else in his life left, therefore it is compared to modern society because people walk out of people's lives at any given time wheather its childbirth or a friendship or couple. You can't always expect everyone to have your back . em "The Little White Hearse" this quote" I know not her name, but her sorrow I know; While I paused on the crossing I lived it once more, And back to my heart surged that river of woeThat but in the breast of a mother can flow; For the little white hearse has been, too, at my door." This quote can be compared to Modern Society because somebody whether if its the parents or not, they have had to bury their young child. It also a difference, in Modern Society people don't ever think about burying their child, because it is unexpected. In The Raven and in The Little White Hearse, both poems could have used death to be compared to Modern Day Society. They both had feelings that people in modern day society could relate to for example grieving or sadness. They also has some disagreements against modern day society, for example in modern day society no one expects to bury there child at such a young age, the parents always think that the child is suppose to bury them, so that's one disagreement I found.
