Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 "What a place for a fort." (Jack, 106) "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood."(Jack 69) See? See? Thats what youll get! I meant that! There isnt a tribe for you any more! The conch is gone-”(Jack 181) This quote shows how barbaric Jack and the other children have become during their short time on the island. Thesis Jack "'Jack spoke.''Give me a drink.'Henry brought him a shell and he drank, watching Piggy and Ralph over the jaggedrim. Power lay in the brown swell of his forearms: authority sat on his shoulder and chattered in his ear like an ape." (150)This quote explains how we can expect Jack to use his power. Instead of using it to insure the wellness of the group, he uses it for his own selfish goals. "'You want a real pig,' said Robert, still caressing his rump, 'because you've got to kill him.''Use a littleun.'" (Jack 115) "Hold him!"... "Kill him! Kill him." (Jack 114) Tie them up!() Go on. Tie them.(Jack, 179) "This'll be a real hunt. Who'll come."(Jack, 100) Reading Focus project "All the same you need an army- for hunting. Hunting piggs"(Jack, 32) Well raid them and take fire. (Jack, 137) Jack is going to lead the boysin a raid on Ralph and the rest of the group. Jack is continuouslypushing the boys further and further into anarchy and ruin, and it is mostly Jacks fault. This shows Jack forgetting that this is a game, and shows his ruthless side.Jack is almost becoming an animal. In times like this, his worst side comes outand he almost kills this boy. Jack saying this is totally barbaric. It truly shows the worst side of humanity in which you use a young child to practicekilling a pig. Goulding uses the combined actions of Jack, Ralph, Simon and Roger to represent the best and worst sides of humanity. Jack is a prime example of the bad side of humanity. Goulding portrays Jack as a power hungry tyrant. Goulding contrasts Jack's tyranny with Ralph's good leadership. This shows that Jack is very eager to go out and hunt pigs after he froze up in his last encounter. The fact that he is excited about slitting a pig's throat represents cold blooded humanity. Jack treats this whole experience as a game. He does not realize the gravity of the situation. This is a very poor quality of a leader. "Choir! Stand still." (Jack, 20) This is another example of Jack treating this experience as a game. He focusses on things that do not matter. These things bring the group into a frenzy with the whole group only thinking about things that do not matter. This quote shows how Jack is already a leader, and has authority over a large group. However, when they vote for chief, no one else votes for Jack. This quote shows the true ruthlessness of Jack's rule. He orders his boys to tie up Samneric in order to torture them into joining his clan. Jack is truly evil. This quote shows Jack taking responsibility for killing Piggy. He uses Piggys death to scare Ralph. He embraces thefact that he killed Piggy. This is very evil.
