Step 1: Screen all studentsAll of my 8th grade English students are screened in my classroom using curriculum based measurements.Step 2: Three tiers of instruction that increase in intensityI assist in collecting and analyzing the data collected when I screened my 8th grade students. After analyzing the collected data, I can then determine which of the three tiers they belong in.Step 3: Student progress is closely monitoredI monitor students' work and collect additional data that will be used in step 4.Step 4: Gathered data influences the next stepI meet with other teachers on a weekly basis to determine whether or not a student is making progress based on the data collected. I may make a recommendation that a student be moved to a different tier, which could mean the student needs more or less assistance.
