Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 Compromise Oxycontin Oxycontin is a narcotic pain medicine. It is used to treat moderate to severe pain that isexpected to last for an extended period time. Oxycontin is used for around-the-clock treatmentof pain. It is not to be used on an "as-needed" basis for pain. Oxycodone, the opioid that Oxycontin is derived from, was developed in Germany in 1916. It was designed to be a better medication than other opioids, such as heroin, codeine, and even morphine. In 1995, administrators at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Oxycontin for prescriptionuse. Oxycontin is designed to change that, as it provided a potent dose of an opiate over an extended period of time. This meant that people could get the relief they needed by only taking one or two pills per day. Effects:- mild drowsiness- headache- stomach pain- dry mouth Oxycontin effects usually occurwithin 15-30 minutes of taking Oxycontin and can last for upto 7 hours Oxycontin abusers either crush the tablet and ingest or snort it or they dilute it in water and inject it. After long-term use of oxycodone, men may also experience a decreased level of testosterone or enlargement of the prostate. Other long-term effects include excessive sweating, swelling in the arms and legs, and chronic constipation. Possession of oxycodone or Oxycontin without a valid prescription is a crime, but selling, or possessing with intent to sell without authorization, is a felony and the penalty is much greater than for simple possession. Where a person is caught with oxycodone but not in the act of selling it, the prosecution must prove that he had the intent to sell it in order to convict him of the more serious crime. Police officials said Michael Jackson was heavily addicted to Oxycontin before he died. Adam DJ AM Goldstein had several pills in his system at the time of his death two years ago. Courtney Love suffered an overdose of the medication in 2003, the same year radio personality Rush Limbaugh sought professional help for his Oxy addiction. And the drugwas one of the medications prescribed to Heath Ledger prior to his fatal overdose.
