A black man talks of reaping is a story that tells of a Modern African man trying to fit in to society by doing his part."I planted deep, within my heart the fearThat wind or fowl would take the grain away" (Botemps, 1926. Par.1) In the modern era where blacks were not treated fair. He had to plant knowing that if the seeds blew away he would be punished traditionalwith a whip so he took his careful time and planted his seeds"I scattered seed enough to plant the landIn rows from Canada to Mexico." (Botemps, 1926. Par. 2)He planted so many seeds because he didn't want to make hischildren suffer because his lack of planting seeds good.In this modern era he or his children would be punished because of this. "Small wonder then my children glean in fieldsThey have not sown, and feed on bitter fruit." (Botemps, 1926. Par.3) He children have not planted any seeds so they will eat bitter fruit because he's not responsible for whatthey eat but he's responsible when they get in trouble. From the Dark TowerBy: Countee Cullen "We shall not always plant while others reapThe golden increment of bursting fruit." (Cullen, 1900's. Par 1.) In modern Society people will try to make you do the work for you so they can moochoff your work. "Not always bend to some more subtle brute; We were not made to eternally weep." (Cullen, 1900's. Par 1.) The modern society wants you tobelieve you have to hold your peace and not say anything about how you feel. "So in the dark we hide the heart that bleeds,And wait, and tend our agonizing seeds." (Cullen, 1900's. Par 1.) In this modern society we patiently wait and continue to struggle through our advancement in life, this meaning that we don't say nothing and continue to not say nothing. Winter DreamsF.Scott Fitzgerald "He wanted not association with glittering things and glittering people--he wanted the glittering things themselves. Often he reached out for the best without knowing why he wanted it" (Fitzgerald, 1922. Pg,1) It was stated here that he wanted the shiny gold things, but didn't actually know why. That's a modern issue now is we buy things, but we only buy them because of the demand. You don't actually need 200 dollar sneakersbut they look good right? That girl you like likes them so their so important. "The enormity of his decision frightened him. He was a favorite caddy, and the thirty dollars a month he earned through the summer were not to be made elsewhere around the lake. But he had received a strong emotional shock, and his perturbation required a violent and immediate outlet." (Fitzgerald, 1922. Pg,1) He was a favorite caddy, but why does he get so mad to have a violent outburstwas this another act for a girl. In modern society we are known to act out for peopleto impress them, especially women that you like"Of course you could never love anybody but me," she continued. "I like the way you love me. (Fitzgerald, 1922. Pg,1)Jade uses the advantage of her attractiveness to say that Dexter will never leave her. He really will not and so she is using his heart which is a common modern issue today with younger people mostly. Citations
