Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 Human Body Systems Chemical Digestion is where the mouth takes the salivary glands and produce saliva. Saliva has a chemical sunstance called ptyalin, and the function of the ptyalin is to break down starches in food into sugar. The enzymes control chemical reactions, such as breaking food into food molecules. When digestion occurs because of enzymes, the process is known as Chemical Digestion. Chemical Digestion Mechanical Digestion Mechanical Digestion is when humans physically break down food into food molecules.Your teeth help with this process by biting the food you eat with the incisors, which are your front teeth. With the broken down food, you bring in your food into the mouth with your lips, then use your tongue to push it down the esophagus. Absorption of Food Absorption of Food in Small Intestine: The inner wall of the small intestine is made of millions of tiny structures called villi. The food is absorbed by the villi and into the blood vessels, and the blood flow carries nutrients to the body. The villi make the process of digestion faster because they take up more space, so the absorption of food would go much faster.Absorption of Food in Large Intestine:The undigested food from the small intestine carry over to the large intestine. The large intestine is 1.5 meters long in length. The food spends a long time in the large intestine, then the water is absorbed to make vitamins for the body to use. The materials that are not absorbed in the large intestine form a solid waste. The waste is made up of several materials.
