Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 The man you see below was a patient in the Tuskgee syphilis study. We aquired this picture from OPSEC news. The front of the newspaper was headlined "Germ Warfare Decalred Against Blacks!" and continued to read " Hundreds of Black men discovered Massacared in syphillis 'Experiment'.".This kind of experimentation is unjust on many levels, it is unacceptable to use any humans asGuinea pigs. The study was titled "Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male." this study obviosuly targeted black males. Scientists were testing if people with syphillus were better off without treatmentbecause known treatments were ineffective. The scientists had no informed consent, and went on with the study without telling patients of the potential dangers. This study was testing the effects of untreated syphilis on african american males, the scientists wanted to see the results of syphilus untreated; nothing more nothing less. Additionaly no new scientific discoveries had came out of this, resulting in a huge waste of money and time along with the pain and suffering of 600 african americans. Not only did just the pateints suffer but so did their families, 28 of the men had died directly because of syphilis, another 100 were dead of symptoms, 40 of their wives had been infected with syphilis, and 19 of their children were born with congenital syphilis . Despite the unjust twisted reasoning behind this experimentthey still would not test penicillin after it had beendiscovered in 1928.
