At around 28 weeks of pregnancy, your baby can smell the same things that you're smelling Here's why your baby needs 39 weeks:- Important organs, like the brain, lungs and liver, get the time they need to develop.- the baby is less likely to have vision and hearing problems.-they have time to gain more weight.-They can suck and swallow and stay awake long enough to eat after he's born. During the first trimester:-all major systems and organs begin to form-eyes and ears are formed-arms and legs formed-the heart is beating*After 8 weeks, the embryo is now referred to as a fetus-external genital organs are developed-fingernails and toenails appear During the second trimester:- fetus kicks, moves, and can turn from side to side.-fetus can hear the mother's voice. - placenta is fully developed-Fingernails have grown and toes are fully separated.-fetus goes through cycles of sleep and wakefulness-covered with soft, downy hair called lanugo-Fingerprints and toeprints have formed. During the third trimester:-The fetus can see and hear.-The brain continues to develop.-The bones of the skull remain soft to make it easier to pass through the birth canal.-The fetus can suck its thumb and has the ability to cry.-By 38 to 40 weeks, the lungs have matured completely.-The head will usually turn downward during the last couple of weeks of pregnancy.
