Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 YCbCr Bit Depth Video Codec Compression Colour Space Video and Film Resolutions Compression is when a file is changed in size to save space. For example: When gameplay is recorded with fraps, it is not compressed and therefore it is a big file but after compression, the file is smaller and therefore can save space. Resolution means the amount of pixels in each dimension that can be displayed. Resolutions are shown as width x height, for example 1920x1280. There are different types of definition shown by resolution. Bit Depth specifies the colour information stored in an image. The higher the bit depth, the more colours the image can store. A 1 bit image is the simplest image available as it can only show 2 colours: black and white. An 8 bit image can hold up to 256 colours and an 24 bit image can display up to 16 million colours. Video Codec is a device or software that could compress or decompress video or audio files. For example: A Codec is split into 2 parts: Encode or Decode. For example: whensome music is ripped off a CD and moved to a computer, it gets compressed into a WMA File. YCbCr is a colour space used to represent the same information that RGB gives you. While RGB uses Red, Green and Blue components, YCbCr represents the same information but in luminance. Many containers are used with multimedia file formats. A container format can be used to provide a single format for the user. There are specialised containers: Audio containers could include: WAV or AIFF. Video containers could include MPEG or MP4. Digital Video and Interactive Media Alex Newbery Bit Rate Video Container Colour space can also be referred to as Colour Model. Colour space means the amount of colour obtained in the files we save. The most common colour space available is RGB. RGB represents Red, Green and Blue. Alex Newbery - 40053429 Bit rate describes the rate at which bits are transferred from one location to the other. It is commonly measured in bits per second (bps). Chroma Subsampling YUV YUV is a raster graphics file format, it is related to the colour, space, pixel format. It represents the human perception of colour more closely than the standard RGB model. Chroma Subsampling is the process of encoding images by implementing less resolution.
