Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 Cx BEATS THE HEAT FOR A HOSPITAL We discovered that the heat exchanger wasnt communicating with the BAS because the steam valve that was installed wasnt the correct one. As an important part of our commissioning process, we did a performance test of the heating system to verify it was operating efficiently and not wasting energy. KLH Energy Solutions was asked to commmission (Cx) the mechanical systems in a new atrium for a hospital. The heat for the atrium would be provided by a system running under the floor and surrounding the perimeter. We brought this to the attention of the owner, the contractor, and the designer. And it was pretty clear - a new steam valve would have to be installed and controlled by the BAS for the protection of not just the building, but patients, visitors, and employees. The BAS communicates to the valvehow hot or cold the temperature of the water should be based on what the conditions call for. (i.e. warmer water for winter, cooler for summer) 1 2 4 Without it, thered be no way to control the H20 temperature. Not only would this waste substantial energyby heating H20 during off-peak times, but if the temperature got too hot,it could destroythe underground heating system causing a catastrophic failure. 6 5 3 Theres a valve on the heating system thats in charge of regulating the temperature of the water moving through the pipes under the floor. Its called the steam valve and it's controlled by the buildings automation system (BAS).
