He is the one that picks up Frankenstein off the ice, helps nurse him back to life, and listens to his story. He records Frankenstein's story in a letter written to his sister Margaret. Frankenstein is the narrator of the book. He is fascinated with science, discovers the secret of life, and creates an intelligent monster. He is scared of his own creation and keeps it a secret. He soon realizes how helpless he is in preventing the monster from ruining his life. Alphonse Frankenstein Elizabeth Lavenza Henry Clerval William Frankenstein Justine Moritz Alphonse is Victor's father. He is very sympathetic towards his son and helps him in times of pain. He always encourages Victor to remember the importance of family. Henry is Victor's friend who nurses him back to health when he gets sick. He then begins to follow in Victor's footsteps in becoming a scientist. Elizabeth is four or five years younger than Victor and is adopted into the Frankenstein family. Victor's mother rescues her from a cottage in Italy and takes her into her home. Her dying wish is for Victor to marry Elizabeth. William is Frankenstein's youngest brother. The monster strangles him in the woods in order to get back at Victor for abandoning him. The death of William makes Victor very sad and guilty for creating the monster. Justine was a young girl adopted by the Frankenstein family. She was blamed for the death of William because the monster slipped Williams watch into her pocket.
