Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 Excretory System Purpose The purpose of the excretory system is to remove the harmful metabolic waste products from the blood. It also retains water and nutrients for the body and prevents too much or too little water in the body Components of the system Kidneys- the kidneys filter all the blood in your body and remove the urea from your blood. Your kidneys produce urine using excess water and waste productsUreters- these are two thin tubes that connect the kidney with the bladder and carry urine from the kidney to the bladder. Bladder- the bladder collects the urine before excreting it during urination.Urethra- This connects the bladder to the outside of the human body through which urine is excreted. Processes Filtration- The kidneys filter the blood to remove unwanted minerals and water.Absorption- After filtration, the substances that the body needs are absorbed back into the blood.Diffusion- Substances are transported in and out of the specialised cells in the kidney.Excretion- The kidneys transport urine to the bladder and when the bladder has filled up it uses muscles to force the urine out of the body. Health issues Kidney failure- Kidneys cannot properly filter and remove metabolic waste which allows the waste to build up. Kidney stones- kidney stones form when fluid intake is lowresulting in the concentration of solutes ( salts and minerals). This can result in small crystal stones forming.Bladder infection- This happens when bacteria enters the bladder and causes infection which can cause swelling and pain.
