On an April afternoon in 1933, Aldie and John Mackay were driving along the shores of oneof Scottland's largest lakes, LochNess. Then Aldie saw a giant, blackcreature with a humped back risingout of the water. Some people did not believe this myth, though some listened in fascination. Over the next few weeks, more peopleclaimed to have seen the creature. 1. 1. 2. 2. Several theories of theLoch Ness beast havebeen made. One is thatthe monster is an unknownwater animal or an enormous fish. It could also be a prehistoric species that surived. 3. 3. These theories can also be false. The waters of Loch Nessare freezing cold and so darkthat few plants survive, letalone fish. What would the creature eat? And how could there be only one? 4. 4. Some scientists said to have proof of theLoch Ness monster by photos or video clips. Most of the evidence turned out to be hoaxs while the rest remaina mystery. British scientists even fully investigated the loch, and found no creature. Yet people still believe that there is. Evidence? 5. 5. Conclusion In the 8 decades since the Mackays took their fateful drive, more people have claimed to have seen some kind ofcreature in the water or on the shores of the loch. Skeptics even believe that it is likely that the Mackays did reallysee "something" on the loch. Maybe it was a log caught in the waves or an overturned boat wobbing up and down. The question is, is there really a monster lurking behind the shadows of that lake or is it just a prank the Mackaysplayed on the world to question that? Perhaps one day we will find out.
