As morning approaches, body temperature rises, then peaks during the day, dips for a time in early afternoon, and begins to drop again in the evening. Thinking is the sharpest and memory most accurate when we are at our daily peak in circadian arousal. ** In addition age and experience can alter our circadian rhythm SLEEP STAGES: Rapid Eye Movement better known as REM is a recurring sleep stage during which vivid dreams commonly occur. This stage is also known as paradoxical sleep, because the muscles are relaxed but other body systems are active. When you first closed your eyes to go to sleep your body is using alpha waves. Alpha waves are the relatively slow brain waves of a relaxed , awake state. **Sleep is defined as the periodic, natural loss of consciousness. This falling asleep is marked by the slowly breathing and the irregular brain waves of non-REM stage 1 sleep. During the brief NREM-1 sleep one may experience fantastic images resembling hallucinations.
