This gene is then injected in to another organism's DNA. This creates a genetically modified product. What are the cons of GMOs? * Anti-biotic Resistance The modified antibiotic resistant gene found in plants can transfer to humans causing prolonged and unbeatable diseases. * New Allergic Reaction The modified gene can lead to new allergic reactions, even though they were not existent before. Pesticides injected in to plants can accumulate in the human body when consumed, leading to the build up of harmful toxins. * Toxic Residue How has GMOs impacted the environment and animals? * Decline in Plant Diversity Introducing new crops can lead to a decline in biodiversity among plants. * Unwanted Results Traits like pest and disease resistance inserted in to plants, can transfer to weeds, creating "super weeds," making them difficult to get rid of. * Gene Pollution Pollen from GMO plants pollute the non-GMO plants, making it difficult to produce all natural and organic products * Decline in Animal Diversity When releasing GM animals in to the environment, it leads to the decline in diversity and even extinction for the original species. * Unhealthy competition with in Species By releasing the GM organisms in to the environment, there has been increased competition and predatory actions between them and the original species, making it difficult to survive. 80% 20% Key: : Genetically Modified : Naturally Produced Percentage of Foods Containing GMOs in North America Despite the widespread presence of GMOs:25% of the people claim they havenever heard of this issue ?
