Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 What Are The Long Term Effects On Children Of Eating Fast Food? The consumption of fast food causes many problems in children. A couple of examples of some of the problems caused by the consumption of fast food are obesity and mental issues such as unhappiness. There are many issues that lead to these effects such as food marketing, media coverage, and social media. Recent studies have shown that fast food is one of the leading causes of obesity in children. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), fast food consumption by children has spiked in recent years. As the fast food consumption has spiked, there has also been a dramatic increase in childhood obesity. The National Health Survey has found that these two increases are directly proportional to each other and therefore the spike in fast food consumption is a direct cause of the increase of childhood obesity. The survey found that on average that 1 out of every 4 children who consume fast food are overweight, whereas only one out of every five children who dont eat fast food is overweight. When a child sees their friend with the happy meal box they immediately want one, therefore McDonalds has recently changed their box to look better, include more toys, and appeal to all children. This scheme was developed and brought to market and within the past years displayed everywhere, including social media where kids spend a majority of their time. Krisberg commented on how these advertisements were flashed across social media by stating Most advertising promotes unhealthy regular menu items and often takes unfair advantage of young peoples vulnerability to marketing, making it even tougher for parents to raise a healthy kid.* The fattening aspects in fast food not only cause obesity but unhappiness. Since there was a correlation found between childhood obesity and fast food consumption and there is also a correlation between obesity and unhappiness, there is an indefinite connection between fast food consumption and unhappiness. Not only do these children face unhappiness, but other emotional problems due to their obesity, which was caused by fast food consumption. Teenagers who are struggling to overcome obesity are faced with constant shame, humility, fear, and even discouragement. Sources:*Krisberg, Kim.
